The price of a board is not the price of a finished terrace
Online prices often refer only to the WPC boards themselves. The boards are only one part of a complete installation. A terrace also needs a stable prepared base, a load-bearing substructure, suitable fixings, finished edges and professional installation.
A complete price includes the WPC profiles, aluminium substructure, connecting and anchoring materials, cutting and fitting, edge and corner details, transport and installation. More demanding projects may also include steps, vertical faces, benches, pool cladding or alterations to the existing base. Comparing the price of a board with the price of a turnkey terrace means comparing two different products.
Quality of the WPC profile
Not all WPC products are the same. Profiles differ in composition, strength, surface finish, resistance and manufacturing method. A cheaper profile may look similar in a photograph, but the difference can become visible under load, during hot weather or after several seasons of use.
We therefore consider more than colour and price. We look at how the terrace will be used, the expected load, whether it is beside a pool and the conditions it will face. We explain these differences further on our Timbermax vs. competition page.
The base and substructure
Attractive boards cannot compensate for an incorrectly prepared base. The base must be stable, allow water to drain and suit the type of terrace and local conditions.
Timbermax terraces are installed on an aluminium substructure. It costs more than some cheaper alternatives, but it provides a stable and precise foundation for the complete terrace. The substructure is hidden when the work is finished, although it has a major influence on stability and service life.
Size, shape and details
Material can be used more efficiently and installation progresses faster on a simple rectangular terrace. Irregular shapes, curves, corners, steps, changes in level, vertical faces, penetrations and connections to a swimming pool require more cutting, more labour and more detailed work.
The way edges, corners and steps are finished often determines whether the result feels like a complete architectural feature or simply an area covered with decking boards.
Why Timbermax is not the cheapest option
We prefer to be open about it: Timbermax will probably not be the cheapest quotation you receive. Our price, however, is not simply the price of the decking boards. It includes designing the correct build-up, a high-quality aluminium substructure, professional installation and careful details that influence both the appearance and the service life of the terrace.
Our goal is not to build the cheapest terrace. We want to hand over a terrace that works correctly, looks good and does not require premature repairs because of mistakes that could have been prevented during design or installation.
A higher initial price can mean a more suitable profile, a more stable substructure, correct spacing, expansion gaps and ventilation, carefully finished corners and edges, and one supplier taking responsibility for both the material and the completed installation.
This does not mean that every more expensive quotation is automatically better. It means that you need to understand exactly what each price includes.
How to compare two quotations properly
First check the exact WPC profile and the material used for the substructure. Then compare the base preparation, fixings, edges, corners, steps, transport and installation. A cheaper quotation may not include every one of these items.
It is also important to know who is responsible for the material and who is responsible for the installation. Ask what happens if an unexpected detail is discovered during the survey or installation. A clear quotation should define the scope of work and explain how any changes will be priced.
Is a WPC terrace more expensive than timber decking?
A quality WPC terrace may have a higher initial cost than a terrace made from some types of timber. Future maintenance must also be considered. Timber decking may require regular cleaning, sanding and oiling.
WPC requires less maintenance, but it is not completely maintenance-free. Composite decking still needs periodic cleaning and correct use. The decision should therefore consider more than the lowest initial price. Expected service life, maintenance time and long-term appearance are equally important.
How much will your terrace cost?
As a general guide, a complete Timbermax terrace on an aluminium substructure costs approximately €200 to €250 per m² including VAT. The final price depends on the selected profile, the base, overall size, shape and installation details.

Can the price be calculated from the area alone?
The area is important, but it is not enough by itself. Two terraces with the same area can have different prices because of the base, steps, shape, edge details and selected profile.
Why do we use an aluminium substructure?
Aluminium provides a stable, precise and durable foundation. The substructure is hidden after installation, but its quality has a major influence on the performance of the complete terrace.
Is a WPC terrace completely maintenance-free?
No. Unlike timber, it does not require regular sanding and oiling, but it still needs cleaning and should be used according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
How do you choose the right solution?
When choosing a WPC terrace, do not compare only one price per square metre. Look at the profile, the base, the substructure, the scope of installation and the quality of the finished details.
